Type I EHD

EXCELLANCE Golden Eagle Type I EHD (Extra Heavy Duty) ambulances are the ultimate choice of EMS Providers who demand the utmost in maneuverability, handling, payload, and longevity only available with a Vocational-style chassis. Chassis features typically include air-ride seats, large-capacity alternators, heavy-duty fire-truck style engines/transmissions, remote control/heated mirrors, and air-ride suspensions with automatic chassis lowering. The forward-tilting hood allows exceptional engine access and the front wheel cramp angle permits you to negotiate even the tightest streets and turns.

A wide selection of low-profile chassis from Ford, Chevrolet, GMC, International, and Freightliner provide the user with a way to design a chassis from the ground up to meet specific response requirements. Depending upon the application, Gross Vehicle Weight Ratings can range from 18,000 lbs. to 25,500 lbs. An almost endless array of options for the chassis typically include horsepower ratings from 190 to 325 HP, automatic transmissions, additional fuel capacity, aluminum wheels, air horns, extended bumpers/winches, dual air conditioner compressor systems, battery conditioners, automatic snow chains, etc. An all-wheel-drive (4x4) option is available on most models for severe conditions.

The fully-welded aluminum module has a standard size of 166" length x 96" width and includes 72" of interior headroom. Unlike other manufacturers that simply adapt a Type III body to fit a larger chassis, EXCELLANCE custom-designed a modular body specifically to take advantage of all the special features offered by this larger chassis. Exterior compartment floors are lower to the ground to provide increased storage space and easier loading/unloading of equipment, lower side entry door thresholds allow easier access, and wheelwells are specifically designed to accommodate the larger tires.

(6) standard exterior compartments contain more than 140 cubic feet of storage space. (3) exterior compartments have interior/exterior access and dual (curbside/streetside) vertical backboard compartments are standard. Larger modular bodies are available to perform a multitude of demanding missions including Fire/Rescue, Rescue/Transport, Critical Care Transport, and multi-patient situations.
